TYPICAL SYNOPSIS OF A PARANORMAL HORROR!!

-Usually these films start off with a normal setting and ordinary characters with an ordinary life then as the film progresses, more activity occurs and more tension is built up until the final moments when the characters lives are either ended or put at risk.
-However some paranormal horror films may show past events in the openings of the films which is exactly what we are doing and then the threat moves onto another set of characters to destroy in their lives.
-Others may show glimpses of a future event and move on to show the build up. This is often because all the characters die in the film.

-Paranormal horrors are all based around the fear of the unknown, therefore, to begin with, all paranormal activity occurs behind the characters backs or just out of sight or when they are at they're most vulnerable- when they're sleeping.- Although, some activity may occur right in front of a certain character to provoke them. this character is usually a child. This emphasizes how helpless children are in comparison to their parents and also as they are the only ones who have seen the activity first hand, no one believes them- This is also another thing people fear. Not being able to get help or comfort when they're scared to death. Children are also not very fast, not very strong and don't know any better (They are easy targets)- some paranormal entities may attempt to hurt the child while others may try to befriend the child and turn them against their parents. Certain signs will also be shown throughout the first half of the film (before the real action happens) to make it clear that the thing that is haunting them, is in fact a threat and is deliberately trying to hurt them.
these signs could be;

  • doors shutting behind them
  • lights flashing or being put out
  • scratches on the walls (generally comes in threes as a mockery of the father son and holy spirit)
  • banging on the walls and doors (Also generally comes in threes)
  • anonymous bruising and cutting on the characters
  • dangerous appliances being turned on
  • breakables and meaningful belongings being violently thrown or knocked down- Like photo frames or special plate sets passed down through the family for generations...

In a lot of paranormal horrors, the main characters film everything themselves and this provokes the paranormal as they apparently don't like being caught on camera.

SOUND PLANNING!

This is the song that we will be playing as it is a creepy sounding nursery rhyme which relates to the little girl as she is young but it's also in keeping with the themes of horror. The story behind this is that it was the song that the little girls mother sang to her all the time before she died and now that song haunts her.
We chose this because it's creepy and also because, like I said, it links to the little girl being young as its a nursery rhyme, but also because the lyrics link well to the little girl's character and her past as it all repeats itself over and over again...

"The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout,
down came the rain and washed the spider out,
out came the sun and dried up all the rain,
and the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again."

The spider is like the antagonist of the story as he hunts down the little girl. He slaughters her yet again. The rain is like her blood. When the sun comes out, the antagonist leaves and the little girl meets her friend but then the spider comes back at the end.

We have been given consent by the creator of this piece of music to use in our film (all credit goes to Jade Brown* youtube)

we will also be having this playing in the background

FONT PLANNING!

We chose this font because we wanted to create a sense of mystery. This font helps to create that feel because it's slightly distorted and almost looks holographic, like it's not actually there. This font is called 'poltergeist' which links to our story and enables us to link it to the supernatural themes of our film. By giving the font of our title seem mysterious and giving it that fading effect, it shows how there is going to be some element of mystery and the unknown within the film.

When we look at this we can also see the link between our title and the style of our productions logo, this is because we needed to base them both around our genre. By using a similar font it shows the audience what kind of films we make and what our genre is. Therefore, we have decided that this font choice is suitable for the kind of film we are making. We needed to focus our ideas for our font around the supernatural and mystery themes of horror.
We believe that our ideas are more effective for the audience and in helping them to grasp an idea for themselves of what our horror film will entail.

Mise En Scene Analysis!

Lighting and Colour-
There is a lot of red in this picture. This indicates that this place that they are in is very dangerous. It could also mean that this is a place of love and passion, however, it wouldn't seem that way as the lighting is not dimmed as it would be if there were a couple in there. The red doesn't go right up to the ceiling, this might indicate the level of the danger in this room, so there isn't as much danger as there would be in this room.

Costume-
Both men are wearing black which connotes power, death, mystery and evil. But the older is also wearing white which connotes purity and innocence also cleanliness and safety. this is completely opposite to black so it would seem that his character may be very unsure of his morals however it could indicate that is a very black and white character, meaning that he says things how they are and he does things how he wants to, however the other guy is dressed all in black, meaning that he knows what he wants and what he wants isn't a good thing. The old man is also wearing white gloves, this links back to cleanliness as they are white but also as long as he wears gloves, he won't actually touch anything with his bare hands, leaving no clues behind for the investigators to pick up.

Props-
there is only one prop that i can see in this image and that is a piece of tissue. The tissue is white which as i stated earlier connotes cleanliness, so we get the idea that maybe he's wiping away the blood from his hands. a tissue is also very fragile which could link to his victims and how he treats them.

Facial Expressions-
We can't actually see the old mans face in this picture, this may mean that he's either not an important character or the camera is deliberately getting the audience to focus on the main characters reactions to what the old man is saying to him. The main character seems surprised at the what the other character is saying to him, i think this because if you look closely, you can see that his eyebrows are raised slightly, but he's also smiling which also makes me think that maybe he likes what he's hearing.
