How we incorporated the required preliminary elements into our Horror opening!

The requirements for our preliminary task were to have a character walk into a room and exchange a few lines of dialogue with another character who was already in the room. We were asked to create a short clip (filmed and edited by us) which demonstrated our continuity editing skills, over shoulder shots for when the characters spoke and did not break the 180 degree rule.

  • Our main character is talking to herself and her teddy bear throughout the opening so we have included dialogue.
  • We used over shoulder shots- however we did not use them to show who was talking as our main character was the only one who spoke right up until the antagonist said his only line right at the very end before the title came up, we used the over shoulder shot to show the antagonist emerging from his hiding place at various points in the opening of our movie.
  • Looking at what we've done, I don't believe we have broken the 180 degree rule, however, our flash backs are filmed at a different angle to the clips of present day to show that there is a difference between the time periods.
