EVALUATION TASK 2
How
does my media product represent different social groups?
The little girl is a young child so she would have been a student (In her last two years of primary school or maybe starting her first year in high school) when she was alive but she wouldn't be employed due to her age, therefore, she would represent 'Group E' which consists of students, old people, Unemployed and lowest grade occupations. The kind of people who would struggle in the world on their own, which is exactly what the little girl is doing.
The antagonist on the other hand - Her father - He would have worked in a well paid job before he turned on his family. So for those reasons, he would represent one of the following groups- 'AB' which consists of Higher & intermediate managerial, administrative, professional occupations or 'C1' which consists of Supervisory, clerical & junior managerial, administrative, professional occupations, this is because his character, although he's blacked out, he is wearing black suit, shirt and tie which is the sort of thing he would have worn to work.
Before he turned on his family, the antagonist would have been a sweet and loving father and husband who was very well paid (As you would discover later in the film) which emphasized the fear factor for those who are looking to have kids in the future.

Health
and safety information!
What could have happened;
- We had a knife with us as one of our props so we had to be extra careful when handling it around each other- we kept the knife wrapped up in a tea towel and in the bottom of Daina's bag when we were not filming Tyler with it.
- The ground was wet and soft so anyone could have slipped over and we were all practically sinking into the ground so we had to mind where we stepped but it wasn't that bad
- other than that there wasn't really any safety issues aside from pure clumsiness.
We gave permission slips to the actors for them to fill out and give contact details in case of any accidents.
OUR PRODUCTION COMPANY LOGO!
We chose to call our company 'Archangel' because it relates to how the victims of our horror films are protected at certain points by the previous victims because angels are considered to be guardians, but also because when good people die (Like the little girl's mother in Hunted) People believe that they turn into angels and as we specialize in paranormal horrors, we though it would be fitting to call our production company something which relates to that. An archangels roll is actually to rid the world of sin so we decided to use this as one of the characters in our first film, Hunted, has sinned, but which one is it?
We chose to have the letters in this scratchy black font because it reflects on the dangers that our characters face in our films. It also helps to show that it is a 'Horror' production company and this kind of writing is commonly used for horrors and finally the wings connect to the name of the production company.
The only colours/tones we have used are red, black and white - The three main colours for horror.
Black- bleak, dark, death, decay...
Red- blood, pain, anger, power (Antagonist)...
White- Purity, Innocence (Victims) or just to lour the audience into a false sense of security.

BRIEF!
The requirements for our preliminary task were to have a character walk into a room and exchange a few lines of dialogue with another character who was already in the room. We were asked to create a short clip (filmed and edited by us) which demonstrated our continuity editing skills, over shoulder shots for when the characters spoke and did not break the 180 degree rule.

How we incorporated the required preliminary elements into our Horror opening!
- Our main character is talking to herself and her teddy bear throughout the opening so we have included dialogue.
- We used over shoulder shots- however we did not use them to show who was talking as our main character was the only one who spoke right up until the antagonist said his only line right at the very end before the title came up, we used the over shoulder shot to show the antagonist emerging from his hiding place at various points in the opening of our movie.
- Looking at what we've done, I don't believe we have broken the 180 degree rule, however, our flash backs are filmed at a different angle to the clips of present day to show that there is a difference between the time periods.
Iconic sounds for Horror!
These are a few of the iconic sound effects found in horror. There are two different types of sound- Diegetic and Non-diegetic.
Diegetic sound is sound that comes from something on screen, for example; dialogue or maybe the sound of a chainsaw.
Non-diegetic sound is sound that comes from something off screen, for example; music or in some circumstances dialogue could also be non-diegetic.
Almost all of the sound effects on this video are non-diegetic and they are either used to manipulate to moods and emotions of the audience or they are used to foreshadow an upcoming event.
Iconic sounds of my convention of this genre genre would be;

- demonic laughter
- doors creaking
- bones cracking
- slow and quiet music which builds up suspense
- loud bangs
- crashing and breaking things around the house- destruction
- sound of rocking chair/ rocking horse/ music boxes/ other childrens toys.

STILL FRAME ANALYSIS!
This is a low angle long-shot. This shows the character in his full costume so the audience can see what his character is like- looks like some kind of dark character or vigil-anti or maybe just someone who prefers to stay hidden when in dark places. The low angle creates an impression that this character is powerful or dominant, however, the character's face is visible and the expression it contradicts this idea of power or dominance as he's looking downwards and looking rather guilty and/or surprised as if he had just got out of a struggle of some sort. These clues allow me to make the assumption that this character has just been in some kind of stressful and/or situation, which he has made it out alive by the skin of his teeth.
Friday, 27 February 2015
the shot requirements for this component are;
- shot reverse shot- also known as an over shoulder shot. used when characters are talking to show the scene and the speaker through the other character's perspective.
- match on action- editing technique for continuity editing where each shot carries on smoothly from the other.
- and 180 degree rule- a basic guideline regarding the relationship between the character, the space around them and everything else in the scene.

NINE FRAME ANALYSIS
In the first frame, we used a mid-shot to show what the character is wearing because it's formal, and therefore portrays that character as a well educated and serious person, this emphasizes their superiority. Here the character is walking to the door of the interrogation room.- i think we would shown the character a lot better with a long shot, showing the whole body, because the audience would get to see all of the character's costume and their whole body.
The second frame is an over shoulder close up of the character's hand on the door handle showing the character about to enter the room. The angle of the camera is also canted and it's almost like someone is looking over the character's shoulder. The canted angle is used to portray a feeling of nervousness or unease as this may be the character's first interrogation.
The third frame is another mid-shot, reminding the audience of the character's importance. This shot carries on from the first and second, displaying the use of "match on match action", which we were required to include in our preliminary task filming.
The fourth, seventh and eighth frames are wide-shots, used to show everything that is happening in the scene. these shots are important because they show every character and provide an over view of what is gooing on at that time.
The fifth frame is an over shoulder shot, as is the sixth frame, but the fifth frame is over the shoulder of the child being interrogated, whereas the sixth frame is over the shoulder of the interrogator. These shots are especially used to show who's speaking. We made a mistake with these two shots because we did not realize until we were editing that the two shots were taken over the opposite shoulders when they were supposed to have been taken over the shoulders on the same side, so what we should have done was take the shots over either the right shoulders or the left shoulders, not both.

Faintly hearing in the background a little

Her singing begins to fade, as she begins to start talking to herself
under her breath
Little Girl: “Do you think mummy will like these flowers”
The First Flashback Occurs (The Woods): There
would be heavy breathing, heartbeats getting faster, heavy footsteps and
surrounding noises… With the little girl beginning to run in front view of the
camera.
The camera follows the girl walking within the
woods however we are never going to be seeing her face.
Back to the Graveyard – The little girl is still talking to herself,
shots of her feet holding her teddy bear.
Little Girl: “I think so to, I know she will like these

Back to the grave – She begins to start humming to herself quietly.
Something flickers within the corner of her eye and turns to face the tree.

The Camera turns back towards the girl at the grave, getting up quickly
whist grabbing onto her teddy bear that she placed down shouting as she gets up
Little Girl: “no, no, no” (Under her breath)
The fourth Flashback: The girl is running and
she trips over something amongst the ground (Arms come up to cover/protect her
face/head)
Present Day back to the Graveyard – She turns away from the man and
begins to start running holding her teddy bear.
She falls over and trips, (Arms come up to cover/protect her face/head)
reminds you of her recently doing this within the flashback…
She turns around and gets her knees up, as feet start coming towards
her (We are still not going to be seeing her face)
Fifth Flashback: She turns around whilst on the
ground after falling over, and starts to scrape backwards, trying to escape.
The camera takes a close up shot of the male’s
shoes, as he begins to walk towards her beginning to say something.
The Silhouette: “Sorry my little bird, this is how it has to
be”
Sweeping camera shot of the man’s feet to the

The little girl begins to rise (without seeing
her face) saying something
Little Girl: “Please don’t, please…”
Present Day – The girl begins to rock backwards and forwards after
falling over as the man walks over to her and stops in front of her.
The girl begins to look up “Not seeing her face) and the male has
disappeared.
Sixth Flashback: The girl backs into a corner
of some ruins of an abandoned Shack as she still mutters to herself
Little Girl: “no, no, no…please”
A Panoramic screen shot of the male standing in
front of the little girl, however only seeing the male in the distance.
The girl begins to go into a foetal position as
she begins to realise there is nothing she can do
Present Day - She hears something to the side of her after falling over
and turns to get up cuddling tightly to her teddy bear
Camera shot of where she is looking and nothing is there, camera shot
goes down to her feet as she begins to take a step forward
A hand grabs her, she falls to the ground. The Laughing starts to
appear again…
The man takes a step closer, with a camera shot of only the knife in
his hand (Bloodied) this shot carries through to the end. Whilst the little
girl screams
Little Girl: “DADDY NO”
The screen then blacks out with the production logo “Archangels
Productions” appearing and the title of the film “HUNTED” The song
of Itsy bitsy spider would be playing amongst this appearance.
